How to engage effectively in Social Dialogue?

ETUI-REHS / ETUCE Project

In 2005 and 2006, the ETUI-REHS and the ETUCE have been cooperating on High Level Seminars for CEE Presidents and General Secretaries dealing with Social Dialogue

In 2005, the High Level Seminar “How to engage effectively in Social Dialogue?” took place in Malta on 18 -20 September.
In 2006, the High Level Seminar “Social Dialogue in Education – status and further progress” took place in Cyprus on 21-23 September.
In 2007, the High Level Seminar "Reinforcing social dialogue in the CEE countries" will take place in Slovenia on 24-25 September.

These High Level Seminars aims to clarify the needs for future ETUCE policies and activities related to Social Dialogue as well as at enabling teacher trade unions in Central and Eastern European countries to develop their systems and traditions for collective bargaining. The seminars also intend to strengthen the ties between the ETUCE and member organisations in Central and Eastern Europe.

The EU framework for Social Dialogue and the possibilities for creating a sectoral social dialogue in education are the main topics for discussion at these High Level Seminars. In 2005, ETUCE mapped the state of Social Dialogue through a large survey. The development of Social Dialogue in Europe and Social Dialogue in the education sector are presented and discussed at the seminars through the activities of working groups.

The concrete objectives of the 2007 High Level Seminar on 24th and 25th September in Slovenia are:
1. To discuss the implementation of the ETUCE Action Plan on “Strengthening social dialogue in education”
2. To discuss the creation of the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee in Education
3. To exchange experiences on the status of the national working groups
4. To reflect on the sub-sectoral dimension of the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee in Education
